A Most Delightful Association and Elevated Position
(How long have you been a member of Interact Law, and what led you to join the Board?)
One must confess to an enduring devotion, for I have been a member of Interact Law since 2022; alas, it feels like a decade. It feels, in truth, as though the association and I were introduced in the spring of youth and have since matured into a most sensible, and frankly, invaluable alliance. As for the matter of joining the Board, it was an irresistible summons. Observing the sheer wit, diligence, and commendable practice of my fellow members, and having an appreciation for the subtle art of organization and strategic tea-drinking—err, I mean, strategy crafting—I felt a keen and unavoidable obligation to contribute my small share of counsel. To govern, after all, is a delightful exercise, especially when one’s colleagues possess such admirable intellectual fortitude. It quite saves one the trouble of having to make all the difficult decisions alone!
The Joys of Intellectual Company
(What do you enjoy about your role on the Board?)
What I enjoy most is the company! It is a rare privilege to be consistently surrounded by a gathering of such acute legal minds. Our Board meetings are not mere assemblies; they are veritable skirmishes of intellect all conducted, of course, with the utmost decorum and frequent laughter.
Furthermore, I find a peculiar satisfaction in the pursuit of progress. To be at the helm, steering this magnificent vessel towards a brighter future for all our member firms, is a gratifying undertaking. One feels, you see, a genuine sense of purpose, ensuring that all our endeavors are not merely ornamental but truly advantageous to our esteemed colleagues. It is a wonderful feeling to know that one’s well-considered memorandum can, in some small way, prevent an international legal catastrophe or, at the very least, improve communication immensely.
A Gentle Nudge Towards Prosperity
(How do you encourage lawyers to maximise their Interact Law membership?)
The method, my dear friend, is one of subtle, yet persistent, encouragement, a sort of intellectual matchmaking! Lawyers, I find, are not unlike the most eligible bachelors and spinsters in a drawing-room: they require a gentle, well-timed introduction to realise the mutual benefit of an association.
I endeavor to remind them that membership is not merely a name on a ledger, but a veritable treasure trove of global intelligence and trusted contacts.
- Attend the Balls (Conferences!) One must show up! The most advantageous connections are often made not during the formal lecture, but over a glass of sherry or perhaps a highly caffeinated beverage in this modern age.
- Share One’s Intellect (Expertise) Lawyers are encouraged to be less like Mr. Darcy, and more like Miss Elizabeth Bennet: engaging, open, and willing to share their considerable charms. By contributing expertise, one attracts it in kind.
- Do Not Be A Stranger (Communicate) The greatest missed opportunities are often those unsent emails. One must cast a wide net and allow the professional correspondence to flow as freely as gossip at a county assembly.
In short, I urge them to treat their membership not as a reserve fund, but as a thriving social and business engine. For what is the point of being part of the most agreeable company in the legal world if one does not actively seek out their advice, their companionship, and, dare I say it, their lucrative referrals? Now, if you will excuse me, I believe a pressing matter of Board minutes awaits my judicious review!
